Sherbert Fizz

We explored how individual ingredients may not taste very nice on their own however once mixed together the result can be extraordinary! Some were salty, some were sour but sherbert is yummy! It crackles and pops when it is in your mouth. This is because your warm saliva reacts with the citric acid and baking soda.

Today we learned that this experiment could be even more exciting if we used smaller plates. Because the drop of liquid soap had less distance to travel to the food colourings, the reaction was greater. The colours really DID explode!
We also learned that the same reaction happens in plain milk: we just can't see the fats and proteins twisting and bending without the food colouring to show up the changes that are happening!
