Phases of the Moon

Mrs Batchelor was very creative on Friday and children researched the phases of the moon using digital devices. They also used Wheelie biscuits to represent the different phases of the moon. Of course they could eat the biscuits afterwards. The children thoroughly enjoyed this activity.

Ripper Rugby

This week Paul, Bruce and Justice have been coaching Years 3-6 in Ripper Rugby. There is an inter-schools ripper rugby tournament at Kensington on Thursday. Go SFX!!!!

Out of this World Immersion

Our concept for Term 3 is Out of this World. On Wednesday each whanau had rotations where children could create art and crafts based on Matariki. Puriri whanau organised a parade on Thursday where each whanau could share what they had created. These are some of the things that Karaka Whanau made.

Out of this World

Our Concept for Term 3 2015 is Out of this World.
We are learning that ……
There is only one earth!
Looking out of this world we can reflect on the earth’s unique ability to sustain life.
God created a unique universe for us to care for.

Patterns of Nature

These are two examples of our artwork "Patterns of Nature." It is based on Andy Warhol's work. We used pastel and each square represents one of the patterns of nature- exploding, packing, meandering, spiral, branching. Every thing you see in nature may be a form of one of these patterns.

Hockey Skills

We are very fortunate that our school is next to the Hockey Stadium. All classes had the opportunity to participate in hockey skill sessions wit Brad from Northland Hockey. Brad is an excellent coach and our skills certainly improved over the 4 hockey sessions.

Tessellations

For this pattern work we started off with a square piece of cardboard. We cut out the top and right hand side making sure there is a gap between the two corners. You move the bottom piece to the top and tape it, then you move the right cut to the left hand side and tape it. Then you tesselate the shape making sure there are no gaps.

Zentangle Fish

Zentangle patterns are multiple patterns within a shape. Each section has a different pattern. They are also the 5 patterns of nature. It is also about being creative.

Colour Patterns

As part of an independent inquiry looking at pattern, we made colour block artworks by taking photos of various objects in the environment of the same colour. Here are some examples.

Autumn Diamante Poems

We wrote diamante poems about Autumn. A diamante uses a noun, 2 adjectives, 3 verbs, a 4 word phrase, then 3 verbs, 2 adjectives and 1 noun to finish.

Quilt Patterns

As part of Immersion for Pattern we designed some quilt squares. The patterns we used come from the 5 patterns of nature- exploding, meandering, spiral, packing, and branching.
