What in the World?

These quizzes have been taken from a Kids National Geographic magazine.
Can you guess where these patterns are from?
Try to work out they are to find the answer to the question at the bottom of each page.

ANZAC

As part of a ceremony to commemorate ANZAC, our school was given crosses representing real soldiers who fought and died in World War 1. Mrs J read out the name of each soldier while a cross was laid at the foot of each cross. Father Peter blessed each cross.

My Story My Culture

As part of My Story My Culture, we used either pic collage or comic life to inform others about the culture we belong to. We took a photo of ourselves, wrote a greeting in that language, found photos of famous landmarks, traditional food, a dance, the flag, a map and 10 facts about that culture.
Here are some examples.

Surprised faces

This artwork is based on the artwork “The Scream” by Edvard Munch.
He created four versions in various media, mainly pastel and paint. THEY HAVE BEEN A TARGET OF THEFT MANY TIMES OVER THE YEARS.

We used crayon and pastel to create our faces with a surprised look aND BLEW DYE THROUGH A STRAW FOR OUR HAIR.

Textured Hearts

Our school motto is "To Love, To Learn, To Serve." This term we focus on To Love. We made a Y chart to think about what To Love looks like, sounds like, feels like. We then made textured hearts using crumpled hand towels, paint and pastel.

Self Portraits

Here are some examples of our self portraits. They are based on the style of an Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani (1884-1920). He used to exaggerate certain features. He would paint people with long necks, oval faces, long noses and ghosty eyes. We used chalk pastels to create our self portraits.

Starry Nights

Our class has been studying Vincent Van Gogh with Mrs Smith. We have learnt about his life, his art and his style of painting. He used bold brushstrokes which showed emotion and movement.
We looked at his famous painting Starry Night and created our own. He was inspired to paint this when he was in hospital and saw the stars at dawn from his window.
