Sherbert Fizz
We explored how individual ingredients may not taste very nice on their own however once mixed together the result can be extraordinary! Some were salty, some were sour but sherbert is yummy! It crackles and pops when it is in your mouth. This is because your warm saliva reacts with the citric acid and baking soda.

Elephant toothpaste
We carried out an experiment today called Elephant Toothpaste! It explored a chemical reaction where yeast was the active ingredient. As soon as the yeast was added to the hydrogen peroxide, dishwashing liquid food colouring and warm water it exploded into this frothing mass of foam.
We were so amazed and excited. It was spectacular!!!

Two in One
We participated in a simple experiment where we looked at Optical Illusions!. At the roadshow they made a skeleton look like it was sitting on a chair and running water look like the droplets stopped in mid air. Our experiment looked like a goldfish was swimming in a bowl. This is because the speed of movement was too fast for our eyes and tricked them.
Science Roadshow
On Monday as an immersion activity for our concept this term which is Change. We went to the Science Roadshow. It was a hands on experience and we participated in lots of different scientific activities. It was great to help us think about Science in the world around us.

Our Pepeha
As part of our Maori programme we have been learning a class pepeha, because we live in Whangarei and are part of a class whanau. It tells you our maunga, awa, waka, marae, iwi, hapu and whanau.
Bike Day
Our school celebrated Bike Day as it is a way to keep fit and healthy. Middle syndicate went out together and set a course for the cyclists. It proved a bit hard because the grass was rather long. However we had fun and had a healthy glow at the end to show all the hard work we were doing!

Outdoor Education
Last week, we participated in Outdoor Education Activities. We went Ten Pin Bowling, Caving and to the Adventure Forest. In Ten Pin Bowling we had to be persistent and resilient to try to bowl the pins down. In Caving and the Adventure Forest we certainly needed courage, persistence and be a risk taker to overcome these challenges. It was exciting and fun!
Challenge
Our concept this term has been Challenge. Mrs Wendt set us some fun mini challenge activities i.e. domino runs, juggling, sled skiing, balance board, string games, origami, computer activities(agent ani, questionaut), and elastics. We had to use skills such as persistence, resilience, risk taking, and problem solving to overcome the challenge.
Eco Waste
Anna from eco-waste came to our class and worked with the children on creating a more sustainable planet. We looked at shopping smarter to reduce waste, what we can recycle and reuse. Our challenge was to have a zero waste lunchbox. Our class achieved 92% zerowaste lunchboxes.

Zahna Violin
Zahna is in a violin concert and is playing music by Handel and Bach. They are both composers from the baroque era. Zahna dressed in clothes from the baroque period and played the violin for us.
Please enjoy!
